Description

illustration from Deadeye that I did for Daryl. He's publishing part of it in his publishing class *gasp* what a concept and he wanted an illustration to go with it. I have one more to do. I need to figure out a way to speed things along when doing this. The background was complex, many layers-and it isnt even that good in my opinion. Backgrounds are a new thing for me. I might end up changing how Ben -the Bartender- looks in the comic. But I love love love Klara in this one.

COMMENTS VERY APPRECIATED-even critical ones lol. I'm sure there are some things to be fixed and worked on.

I love the details you're getting into the people. His traveling dirt, the frills on her dress, the bartender's arm hair, things like that are really standing out.

Your backgrounds just still look simplistic in comparison. The simple shapes and lack of detail are bland compared to the depth of the characters. There could be shelves full of glasses and bottles along the back wall, the kegs could be different shapes or have different fancy spigots, the footboard across the bar could have scuffed woodgrain from all the people kicking it while they sit. The mugs look really cool, but it's odd that they appear to be sitting behind and underneath the bar level?

I guess that sounds like way more work than even drawing the folks in the picture is, but it would look more like a complete picture, instead of a brown screen for people to stand in front of. I could even envision pulling the shot back just enough to see a few other people in the bar looking warily at the confrontation, and maybe some stripes of light showing the illumination from the windows that are theoretically off on one side.

Please don't think I don't like it, they look great, and I know you're still just learning backgrounds, and you're probably not even trying to get that crazy about them. It's just what I see as a possibility when I look at this.

The other thing I see is that they look like they're playing a fierce game of rock-paper-scissors~
